TRUCY WRIGHT

Trucy Wright is my favourite Ace Attorney character. She’s a magician, and Phoenix Wright’s daughter. She often acts as a kind of “investigation assistant” to Apollo Justice.

Her first appearance was in Ace Attorney: Apollo Justice, the fourth game in the series. Since then, she’s appeared in both of the following main series games - Dual Destinies and Spirit of Justice.

Her parents were part of the famous “Troupe Gramarye”, a troupe of magicians. Her mother, Thalassa Gramarye, died when she was young. When she was eight, her grandfather, Magnifi Gramarye, was murdered, and her father, Zak Gramarye, was put on trial. Phoenix was his lawyer. Unfortunately, Phoenix presented forged evidence (which he didn’t know was forged!) and Zak was about to be found guilty, when he disappeared, leaving Trucy behind. Phoenix took her in, and eventually adopted her. Without spoiling much more, there are some more mysteries surrounding her family…

I really like Trucy! She’s a really fun and interesting character in AA4. She’s very upbeat and not too serious, which makes some moments where she is serious more impactful. She’s also very smart, noticing things that Apollo doesn’t.

In my opinion, AA5 does her dirty - it kind of pushes her out of the narrative. For example, in 5-2, a character who she is friends with is accused of murder, but Trucy doesn’t get to help with the investigation, since Athena is there, and I guess the writers didn’t want both of them there? She also gets held hostage at one point, and comparing Phoenix’s reaction to it to his reaction to a similar event in AA2 is actually comical - he sounds like he’s reading from a script.

Luckily, she gets a bit more focus in AA6, since she’s the accused in 6-2! I really like that case. Still, I feel like later versions of her character lack a bit of what makes her so interesting in AA4. Hopefully AA7 will write her well, if it ever comes out… And hopefully she’ll finally learn that secret from the end of AA4 - IYKYK.
